The United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida (Tampa Division) has entered a final judgment against http://www.abadss.com finding it in violation of the DMCA and other federal statutes and finding that the satellite receiver software distributed on http://www.abadss.com “was primarily designed, marketed and used to facilitate piracy of DISH Network programming.” DISH and NagraStar were awarded $8,993,600.00 in statutory damages.
The website http://www.abadss.com, including all user records, posts, and files have been forfeited to DISH and NagraStar. You should expect to be contacted by an investigator or attorney working on behalf of DISH Network and NagraStar.

I can use it on a motor by itself and move the dish. No problem.

I can add up to 8 lnb's through a 8X1 and no problem.

If I try to move the motor which is first in line before the 8X1 switch, I sometimes have the S-9 drop out and have to turn it off at the back for a few minutes and then it comes back.

If I use a 22KHZ switch anywhere on the system it shuts down within a minute of two. Turn it off at the back and it comes back then shuts down, until I remove the 22KHZ switch.

If I connect my S-10 it works the system no problem.

I think it is my power supply, or the thermistor I was reading about.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Media Works To Suppress Obama 'Born in Kenya' Bio

While the internet buzzed with Breitbart News’ release of a booklet from President Obama’s literary agency circa 1991 describing him as being “born in Kenya,” the mainstream media still refuses to report the story, or plays defense for Obama.

Never mind that the agency used the “born in Kenya” biography until 2007. Never mind that authors who have worked with the agency state that the agency asks that authors pen their own biographies. Never mind that Obama has routinely padded his biographical details to appeal to particular audiences.

Nothing to see here.

Michael Shear, at the New York Times, was in full defense mode:

“Perhaps the darker side of politics is always close to the surface … the conservative Drudge Report Web site published a headline: “BORN IN KENYA,” based on a three-decade-old promotional booklet for a publisher that included an inaccurate biography of Mr. Obama. It stayed on the site for much of the afternoon. The headline linked to a report at Breitbart news, another conservative site, which suggests that the booklet represents a pattern in which Obama — or the people representing and supporting him — manipulate his public persona.’”

We presented a document. The Times calls that “the darker side of politics.” Absurd. And that was the Times’ only coverage of the story – dismissing Obama’s pattern of biographical manipulation without comment. All the news that’s not fit to print.

How about the Washington Post, the paper that assured us that Mitt Romney’s 50-year-old haircut incidents were news? It trotted out leftist stalwarts and Friends of Media Matters Greg Sargent and Erik Wemple to cover for Obama and his literary agency. Sargent scoffed, “rumor has it the whitey tape will break any minute now.” Wemple’s only comment: “Okay.”

Well, okay, then.

How about the Los Angeles Times, which still refuses to release tape of Obama speaking with Palestine Liberation Organization former spokesman Rashid Khalidi at an anti-Israel event? Not a word.

How about Obama’s hometown paper, the Chicago Tribune? Crickets. The Boston Globe? Nada. CBS? Nope. NBC? Nothing. ABC News’ website did mention the story, but only by syndicating a Yahoo! News report – and meanwhile, Jake Tapper was on Twitter, downplaying the story.

Huffington Post did cover the story – but not initially. Instead, they waited for Obama’s literary agency to fall on the sword, making the dubious claim that she had committed a simple “fact checking error” – a fact-checking error that lasted 16 years and two agencies, all the way until after Obama launched his presidential campaign in 2007.

What was Huffington Post’s headline? “Birthers Make Another Blunder.” Once you click in, the headline becomes, “Obama Birther Rumor Debunked As Literary Agent Clarifies Mistake.” The first line of the piece? “Barack Obama birth certificate conspiracy theorists have been foiled again.”

This leaves questions as to whether the Huffington Post’s editors are actually literate, since Breitbart News’ piece introducing the Obama bio explicitly states repeatedly that Breitbart News is not stating that Obama was born in Kenya, supports the veracity of the Obama birth certificate, and explains that the evidence goes to Obama’s construction of his own biography. Huffington Post did quote the original piece, but buried Breitbart News’ non-birtherism at the end of its article labeling the story a “birther” story. This is magnificently dishonest, and played just as Obama would have his minions play the story.

Politico’s Dylan Byers covered the story by calling it “an old claim that Obama was born in Kenya.” This would be a lie. It’s not an “old claim.” It’s a biography put out by Obama’s literary agency, his legal representative in the literary world. And it lasted on their website for 16 years. No doubt Byers’ check is in the mail from the Obama campaign.

So, what important news was the mainstream media covering while conspicuously ignoring the hottest story on the internet, and a story that calls into question the character of the President of the United States?

The New York Times ran a piece on how one Jolie Clifford likes wearing clothing cribbed from 1950s issues of Playboy.

The Washington Post had an article on an angler who “may have broken world record with snakehead caught in Occoquan River.” The Post did not report whether Mitt Romney lashed the snakehead to the roof of his car.

The Los Angeles Times posted a piece explaining how Los Angeles’ electric car drivers are different from others across the nation.

The Chicago Tribune did an article on Doodling for Google. Whatever that means.

How about the Boston Globe? They don’t have anything on Obama’s bio. They do, however, want readers to know that “With jazz trio Pilc Moutin Hoenig, anything can happen.”

The NBC News website featured video showing a five-time “Jeopardy!” champ rating Chuck Todd’s “Celebrity Jeopardy!” appearance. Todd beat comedian Lewis Black and columnist Clarence Page, in case you were wondering.

CBS reports in breaking news that Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of former French President Nicholas Sarkozy, is returning to the music industry and will release a new album by the end of the year. The world waits with bated breath.

Clearly, the mainstream media has better things to do than cover stories calling into question how the President of the United States has spent his life constructing and reconstructing his persona. Clearly, they are too busy to vet this president. That’s why Breitbart News does it.

4DMapMaster Restoration Project

The 4DMapMaster Restoration Project team is proud to announce the availability of the 4DMapMaster Restoration program (MMR). This project has been a long time coming, but the time has come to release the first public version of 4DMapMaster. We have put together a couple of different web sites that contain all the necessary files to be downloaded to correctly use the program. There are also other files that will allow you to enhance your 4DTV viewing experience. There are also technical documents if you have a desire to get an in depth understanding of the 4DTV hardware. There is only one catch to all of this. If you use any of this documentation or the program itself, you are the one responsible for any failures. We will only accept praise for the successful situations. But if you can contribute information to our effort to help make MMR a better program, please feel free to post any experiences you may have. We have made every effort to provide a detailed step by step procedure to allow you to obtain, install, and use the proper hardware and software to be successful at replacing your outdated 4DTV maps. We will not and can not hold your hand. Please do not screw it up. We are counting on you!

Several files are necessary to run the necessary programs. The programs come in two flavors, the Linux version and the Windows version. MMR for Windows require redistributable dll files from Microsoft and Nokia (QT). Linux has them installed by default. And do not forget the USBBDM hardware and USBBDM NT software. They have both Linux and Windows versions also, and require a different set of redistributable dll files from Microsoft and Nokia. Our site has most of these files; feel free to download your own copy from Microsoft, Nokia, or USBBSM support sites. We have provided an installation document that covers everything you ever wanted to know about the installation process. It is the first file listed on the map master site. Please read it. Print it off and read it again, and again. After you think you know what you are going to be doing, read it again. Go to this site to get all of the support files. https://sites.google.com/site/4dtvmapmaster/home

Once you have all of the MMR support software installed and have the proper USBBDM hardware you will be ready for the MMR program. The 4DMapMaster program is freeware. I expended lots of hours to produce this program so that others could enjoy the fruits of my and others efforts. Some year I may provide the source to someone(s) who can make heads or tail of the ~10,000 lines of C++/Qt code and to continue support of the 4DTV map restoration effort. Please do not ask for the source, you can not have it! The executable program is another thing. Please send an e-mail to MapMasterWizard@gmail.com to request a copy of the executable program web site URL. I will send you the URL for the other web site to download the MMR program and some other enhanced map files. I will try to check my mail every day. This is not intended to restrict anybody from using the program. I just want to get some idea of how many people have an interest in this project. The MMR program has two different modes of operation, beginner and not beginner. I could have called it expert mode, but we do not have any experts, just non beginners who have various levels of understanding of the internals of the 4DTV receiver and the satellite mapping structure. The beginner mode will do everything you need to do to dump the maps from a binary and reload the entire set of maps to create a new binary. The extended mode (menu item switch controlled) allows more tools to probe the map binaries and edit custom maps. It is really intend for a more knowledgeable user. It has tools to dump the binary in hex, do diffs, and do hex editing of the binary. The program has lots of documentation about the map structure and instructions of how to read/write the maps.

This thread is for Amiko NA 8240 owners that want to offer suggestions or requests for changes to HD-8240. As we have seen, Karmacom got the original list I sent done in 8 hours. They are very dedicated to this market and you guys.

Please be realistic in your requests. Remember that on this type of STB many things are pre-defined chip functions. Other things are in software and can be done if reasonable and improves the product for all.

Since I am not the engineer I cannot promise, that is why it is a "wish list". Manual PID was on the wish list I submitted and we have it

I will filter through what I already know can and can't be done and submit the list in a few weeks or a month. That gives everyone time to know their box and find things they would like improved.

List sofar, summarized from another thread:

1. If possible, change so after a blindscan you exit to that satellite rather than to the general list, which causes motor to move to first channel/sat rather than to what was just scanned.

2. Increase fail delay for timer record. If the motor has to move too far 8240 time record times out and reports a "fail". Temp solution: If you have a recording on 61W scheduled, don't leave motor parked on 131W.

3. In general, see if I can figure out if 8240 can be modified to not be so motor happy. Kind of tied in to #1 and comments from mwg. I think there might be some reasoning behind this but I will go over it.

Ok guys....add to it!

DISH Network Wipes Out Commercials

Finally! The device generations of TV watchers have fantasized about owning is now available; it's a wonder it took so long to hit the market. Satellite broadcaster DISH Network (Nasdaq: DISH ) has introduced a new DVR with a feature that can almost completely eliminate commercials for recorded TV. Reaction from the big broadcasters has been muted so far, save for the occasional irate outburst. Will this lethal, new, commercial-killer eliminate their most lucrative source of revenue?

And now, no words from our sponsor
A DVR that skips commercials isn't exactly a new invention. Many recorders in use today give users the ability to fast-forward rapidly over ads. The difference between these devices and DISH Network's new offering is that the latter's "auto hop" feature cuts them out entirely, save for a brief flash of black screen.

There's little doubt that auto hop will be popular. Who really wants to deal with ads, even of the fast-forwarded variety? What'll help is the company's edge-of-affordable price point for this service, which is to be $10 extra per month for its subscribers after a one-time $99 fee.

The firm is undoubtedly hoping the commercial-killer will be a potent weapon luring customers away from its much larger rival, satellite's big daddy, DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV ) . There are a lot of subscribers to poach -- DirecTV had 28.5 million of them at the end of its first quarter, 20 million of which were in the U.S. By contrast, DISH Network had approximately 14.1 million total subscribers.

DirecTV has also been better at adding to those customer rolls. This past quarter, it enjoyed a net gain of around 674,000 subscribers, which was over half-a-million more than DISH Network's additions of approximately 104,000. On a positive note, the majority of the DirectTV's growth is occurring in Latin America, and net U.S. subscriber additions of 81,000 actually trailed DISH Network's for the quarter.

DISH Network also needs to lift its revenue per subscriber, which hasn't been as high as hoped. Its first-quarter revenue per share was $76.71, and although it was $1.32 more than in the same period the previous year, it fell about $0.60 short of analyst expectations. Not to mention that it was significantly lower than DirecTV's figure of $91.99.

Having said that, DISH Network's actually improved its financial results of late. Although its most recent quarterly net profit figure was down, this was due to a $341 million legal settlement in the same period the previous year. Stripping away that one-time payout resulted in earnings per share of $0.75. That meant first-quarter EPS of $0.80, a full dime above analyst expectations, actually grew about 7% on an apples-to-apples basis. Revenue, meanwhile, grew 11% year on year to $3.6 billion. An extra $4 a month for the commercial zap feature, along with a bunch of $99 fees, should put some more zip in all of those numbers.

Executive insult
What's of more concern is advertisers, the glue that holds the network TV providers together. Network executives are understandably spooked about anything that might make any advertiser even the slightest bit unhappy. That's why the only apparent early reaction by the networks to DISH's news was negative -- the broadcast chairman of Comcast's (Nasdaq: CMCSA ) NBC, Ted Harbert, characterized auto hop as "an insult to our joint programming, and I'm against it."

But should he be? Despite the popularity of DVRs since their introduction in the late 1990s, advertisers haven't given up and pulled their spots from TV. In fact, ad spending in the medium continues to grow; in 2011 year on year growth came in at 2.4%, to around $68 billion.

Now, those increases weren't spread evenly around the business. Much of the 2011 rise was due to syndicated programs and cable channels (which grew at a 15.4% and 7.8% annual clip, respectively, compared to only 0.1% for network TV). News Corp (Nasdaq: NWS ) for example, saw operating profit in its cable division grow a mighty 20% in its most recent quarter.

You can't cut this
Cable is where the hot shows are these days, so it's no surprise that's where the ad money's going. Luckily, cable has nothing to fear from the new DVR feature NBC's Harbert is so annoyed with -- auto hop only works with network TV shows, and pre-recorded content at that. So the best-growing segment in all of television is safe from this dreaded device as is the one with the priciest ad spots -- big-time sports programming like the World Series and the Super Bowl.

Besides, if nothing's stopped advertisers from putting their spots on TV by now, nothing will. It's still far and away the best medium for getting a message across to a mass audience. The Internet, for one, is simply too wide and scattered to provide that level of viewership in one shot. DISH Network's cool new feature isn't going to drive advertisers away any more than other perceived threats to TV's power as an ad medium. Instead, look for the new DVR to be a popular choice for DISH Network's subscribers and a nice, albeit modest, contributor to the firm's top and bottom line.

DISH has done well leveraging its technology, and we've identified three more American companies that should thrive over the next few years by doing the same. Find out which firms these are in our FREE report, "3 Stocks To Own For The New Industrial Revolution."
